LINDE WERDELIN announces SpidoSpeed Steel Anthracite DLC

LINDE WERDELIN watches and instruments are excited for the arrival of the latest version of its chronograph model, SpidoSpeed Anthracite DLC.

Achieving a uniform ‘Anthracite’ shade for the full series of SpidoSpeed Anthracite DLC in 100 pieces was an extremely challenging procedure. The result of the Diamond-Like- Carbon treatment, also known as DLC, is an anthracite grey nuance, which conceives a major sense of depth to the case, conveying the best 3-dimensional experience, typical of the Spido family. Featuring the analogous skeletonised steel case construction of the original SpidoSpeed, along with its weight reduction technology, it maintains integrity of strength. Combined with a multiple-layered dial construction, it provides an infinite 3-dimensional visual experience.
Like all Linde Werdelin timepieces the case of the SpidoSpeed Anthracite DLC features a complex structure necessary to enable the attachment of the instrument (The Rock for skiing and The Reef for diving) on top of the timepiece.
As per all previous versions of the SpidoSpeed, retaining a custom-made and exclusive fully- integrated chronograph movement, there is a strong reference to the racing car industry, evident from the detail of the material used on the dial (such as the dashboards in the racing cars of the 40’s).

Case and Dial
The whole case including the crown, the push- buttons of the chronograph as well as the case-back and all the skeletonised part of the SpidoSpeed have been DLC coated, with a complete anthracite tone. This is an industrial process of varying complexity and quality. It is crucial for each watch to undergo the DLC treatment for the exact same duration to achieve the identical ‘Anthracite’ shade.
The DLC treatment is a coating which consents to increase hardness and scratch resistance. The steel underneath goes through a kolsterising procedure; next it is blasted with approximately one thousandth of a millimeter of carbon to create a surface up to three times harder than steel and second only to diamond in
hardness. This hydrogen free diamond structure crafts the watch in such a way that it promises extreme durability and virtual scratch and corrosion resistance, perfect for any sporting environment.

Movement
Showing through a clear sapphire crystal case back and the sub-dials of the SpidoSpeed is a custom- made integrated chronograph movement (LW03). The movement calibre 2251 was conceived by Valérien Jaquet of the Concepto manufacture, an independent high-end movement maker based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, and modified and finished in accordance with Linde Werdelin specifications.
This specialised movement has been modeled after the reliable Valjoux 7750 foundation, and built to superior standards with high quality finishing. Call it a super movement sharing the 7750 architecture, SpidoSpeed’s LW03 is exclusive and highly attractive.
